Grangey 7 - 2 Huddersfield Am Res
Hudds feel like they had a bad day at the office today but for me there were certain reasons for this with Grangey beign too physical for their opposition, to fast upfront and generally just more up for the game.
This showed right from the off with an early ball breaking down the right side for Peo to cut inside the defender and square a ball to Tomo on the left in acres of space. No mistake from him meant an early 1 - 0 lead which was followed up by a peach of a shot from Peo with his swinger, top corner to make it two and it looked like there would only be one result in this game with less than 10 minutes gone.
Grangey didn't let complacency set in though and were keeping the Hudds chances to a minimum with Wilko, Col, Tetley and Addy defending well as a unit and setting up counter attacks whenever they got hold of the ball. This was showed when a quick free kick was hammered up field route one style with Tomo reacting quicker than any of the opposition defenders, again no mistake = 3 nil to the home side.
Hudds pulled one back to keep Grangey on their toes but in reality the only disappointment for us up until half time was the penalty miss.
The second half started with Hudds getting more into the game and getting some passing moves going to put more pressure on the defence who were resilient all day. I can't really remember what order the goals in the second half came but the best of which came from Cairnsy with an excellent finish from the edge of the box after a good passing move from someone who had moved to centre back to help out the team after an injury to Col. A great performance from Cairnsy today who had to book the day off from working at Asda to play!?!
Other goals from came from Ross who will have been disappointed with just one as he usually bags 4 or 5 in those types of games but did play well none the less and just missed out on the MOM award from the ref. Tetley bagged off his shoulder from a corner from the left and Tomo topped off a fine and deserved MOM performance with a hatrick. He really did create problems for the opposition all game.
Other mentions have to go to captain Oz and Dacre who didn't get on the score sheet but still both had top games and worked hard to break up Hudds play and create a number of chances for their side. And Wilko in net who pulled off a fantastic save in the first half to tip a top corner bound shot over the bar (we do appreciate it really Steven even if we don't mention it!!) and not to forget a penalty save even though it was more like a passback really (sorry to the Hudds player but maybe not your finest moment) , our two subs also played thier part in a good performance all round.
It was easy to see how Hudds have got to their league position with some footballers who will cause problems for a lot of teams, both teams will be looking forward to the reverse fixture.
From my view the ref had a good game today too after stepping in at the last minute. As the Hudds report says he did let a late challenge or two go without a booking but they were over eager challenges rather than malicious.
Good performance today lads let's keep it up for next weeks top of the table clash.
