Report

After a few weeks off due to the big freeze it was back to the grind of the league. A short trip away to Gildersome where the Spurs were waiting. Aiming to be the first team to beat us this season in the league. After a dry week but rainy saturday morning the pitch was a little boggy and was sure to cut up. Sporting a new pink kit the lads were in good spirits and keen not to make it a bogey kit. Nothing like a new kit to boost moral !!

The kick off was delayed slightly due to the ref getting stuck in traffic. When we finally kicked off the lads were eager to get stuck and started at a great pace not allowing Spurs time on the ball. Knocking the ball around well in the thick mud and getting it wide was gonna be key to the three point today. It wasn't long before we take the lead as great work on then right from Tolly, CC and Simon with the assist finds Kenny who at the second attempt finds the net. 0-1. It wasn't long before it was two as Jacko flicks a throwing onto kenny who again finds the bottom corner 0-2 ! We were well on top limiting Spurs to long shots and the odd half chances. A superb counter from us puts us three up with Gilly then Browny assisting Tommo who clips a low cross into the far corner 0-3 !
Spurs were struggling to live with us as Nick n Daz were controlling the back line with Gilly in goal clearing anything that went past them. Tolly n Westy were linking up well with KB n Si on the wings who were the key as thats were the grass was ! CC n T were picking up the loose passes n supplying Jacko n Kenny whenever possible. Now with the goals flying in there is too many to mention fully (and i can't remember them all either !!) A typical KB finish as he poaches a Kenny shot :) and a cheeky chip by T after a great towering header by Daz allows CC to assist. Jacko T n Kenny were linking up well n causing a load of problems helping T and Kenny to first half hat tricks. The only blip to the half was through our own sloppy play when a loose pass was intercepted and allowed there tricky midfielder to place a low shot past Gilly. The score at half time is 1-7 !! (i think).

The game was pretty much over so Nick is replaced by Pickup due to a tight groin.  The pitch was now really heavy going in the centre so the wings again was gonna be the key.
Only a few minutes had gone when we won a corner. CC whips one in and Jacko is there just ahead of Daz to tap in from close range, he's so happy as its his first of the game and was been out scored by T n Kenny !!  1-9 !! With the early goal we go into auto pilot and stop playing the way we should. Instead of playing the easy pass its a dribble or the passes are of a hollywood nature. This made the game more open as Spurs come more into the game creating decent chances and putting our defence under pressure. Jack Kitson replaces Daz T as he takes a blow to the head. Im sure thats what it was lol. Simon and Kev were still creating openings out wide with CC n Tommo trying to pull the strings. Kenny was linking well with a now happy shoot on site Jacko :).
Spurs had put in a lot of effort to narrow the score line and had kept us at bay since the early second half goal. They seem to have tired and with the game going into the final twenty mins we take a hold on the game again. Kev providing the assist again but this time a Spurs defender stops Jacko from tapping in to score himself ! OG !! Simon finds T inside who plays a 1-2 with Kenny and places a low shot past the keeper for his quadtrick !! The goals started flowing again as a poor clearance is pounced upon by Jacko who hits a long drive over the keeper (prob wind assisted) but a good strike. A fourth goal and another quadtrick is scored by Kenny as a places another shot past the fed up keeper ! now 1-12 ! Keeping count ??
With the minutes ticking a away Jacko breaks clear one on one with the keeper. He "shoots" but is scuffed and going wide, but he manages to reach it and tap in from an angle for just a normal hat trick 1-13 !!
The game finishes with both teams shattered after a tough 90 mins on a boggy pitch. No doubt Spurs wont be happy with the result but can take heart from there second half performance which saw us put under pressure and could have had a few goals with more composed finishing. Although the result was a little shock it wasn't half as shocking as what the team witnessed in the changing room after... you all know what I'm talking about !! Never seen the dressing room so quiet, even when we lose !

A great result for us after a few weeks off. Shout outs today go to Simon n KB and our back four who despite a few switches in position remained on top and solid throughout. We are our own worst enemies at times and need to cut out the silly mistakes. This week is one of them fixtures where we will be punished as we travel to Old Modernians. After losing there last year we want to put that right on a big flat pitch that should suit us well. Be happy, stay safe and get to training this week @ Crawshaw 19:45. Kisses.
