Mods 1 Grangefield 0
Where to start?
The lads seems in good spirits for this one but that was probably down to the fixture computer only giving us one game in the last month. I did think that one game in a month was going to make this one a tough day at the office for our lads but they defiantly roved me wrong.
The game started very cagey with both teams trying to get a strangle hold of the game but i think that the grangefield outfit were probably the better side in the opening exchanges, with sam playing out of position for the day but he linked well with padje on the left, and Dan smith who at one point looked like he was having a cardiac arrest putting his body on the line like all centre midfielder's should. The first half was very much a midfield battle and a can only recall one clear cut chance. Lee with a huge kick over the Mods defenders heads which Stefan (i haven't scored a competitive goal for months) Ebenhoodle latched on to just before the keeper he had managed to knock it past the him and the ball just trickled wide. Very unlucky but a draw at the break was probably a fair reflection of the game.
The second period kicked off with the same tone but the Mods team probably playing the better of the football and grangefield struggling to keep the ball for long enough. Both teams had a few chances but nothing really to write home about as a lot were wide or close to the corner flag. The deadlock was eventually broken just after the hour with a mistake made by grangefield. Lee Played a short ball to Sam who probably waited a little to long for the ball to come to him as the Mods right winger stepped in before him and crossed a ball anyone would have been proud of. The striker met the ball perfectly and smashed it passed Lee to put the home team ahead. I would like to say that we had chance after chance after this but i can't to be fair the Ref didn't really help he missed a lot of pushing by the big centre half who had an easy day with the long high ball. We made some changes with Steggs and Jack coming on but to no avail. The Mods team had changed their tactics at this time and packed their box well. A loss for the boys but some excellent performances. Think we know how to play Mods this week and hopefully the cow patch of a home pitch will only help the home team.
Chin up fella's 2 games to go lets make 4th place ours and send that message to the chasing pack for next year.
